The green frames have larger cells so the bees can make drones. You can add up 2 or 4 drone frames in the brood boxes (bottom boxes) in the #2 or #3 frames positions. Then every two weeks you will pull out each drone frame (alternate 1 frame every 2 weeks) and destroy most of the capped drone brood by cutting the cells completely out of the plastic comb, freezing the comb overnight to kill the varroa mites and returning the thawed comb into the hive so the bees can recycle the wax. You do this in the spring ans summer to kill and reduce the varroa mite population. It is a natural way to control varroa.
Deep: 19" x 1-3/8" x 9-1/8"
Medium: 19" x 1-3/8" x 6-1/4"
Shallow: 19" x 1-3/8" x 5-3/8"
Deep Frames are commonly used in the Brood Box
Healthy colony will occupy 20 Deep Frames in 2 Deep Brood Boxes
Deep Frames may be used as Honey Super, but they will get very heavy when full
Medium Frames may be used in Brood Box or Honey Super
Healthy colony will occupy 30 Medium Frames in 3 Medium Brood Boxes
Shallow Frames are use in Honey Supers Only
Commonly for Natural Comb Honey
